TOUR DESCRIPTION:

Begin your adventure with a thrilling scenic flight departing Kununurra over Lake Argyle, Ord Irrigation Area, Bow River and the Bungle Bungle Range. This flight will touch down at remote Bellburn Airstrip in Purnululu National Park. You will then be met by your guide, who will drive you closer into the Bungle Bungle Range in a fully air-conditioned 4WD bus.

From here, you will follow your guide on a 3km guided walk amongst the famous eroded towers and black and orange banded domes on the Domes Walk. Making you way into Cathedral Gorge, where towering cliffs open to form a space with awe inspiring natural acoustics, you will walk along the rocky bed of Piccaninny Creek, which only flows in the monsoon waterfall season. A tasty picnic lunch will be provided to keep you fueled whilst exploring the Park.

You will then take a 65-minute drive to the northern end of the Park along the Western Wall of the Bungle Bungle Range. Head into Echidna Chasm on a rocky path nestled between cliffs that narrows at points to less than 1.5 metres wide. This 1.5 hour walk can be challenging at points and requires full mobility.

As the day comes to an end, head back to the Bungle Bungle Savannah Lodge where you can enjoy a refreshing swim in the pool, sunset drink and a delicious chef-prepared dinner either in the dining room or on the outdoor deck by open fire.

The next morning, your return flight will take you back to Kununurra, and will pass over the immense Argyle Diamond Mine, where rare pink diamonds were once mined.

  • Daisy and Jen: two guides with vastly different backgrounds combined to create a surprisingly thoughtful and informative Bungle Bungles tour. Daisy brought delightful candour and mature insight into her discussion about local Aboriginal culture. Jen added her depth of knowledge of the Bungles' geology and botany. Together they worked seamlessly to walk us through the Bungles, learning as we went, and taking a great deal of care to ensure that we traveled at an easy pace, with plenty of stops for rest and hydration because of the heat. A really enjoyable and informative tour. - Physeter
